Total and Residential Gallons per Capita Day (GPCD)

Total potable water consumption per capita decreased by 40% and residential by 33%. In 2014, the Bay Area reached the reduction goal put forth in the 2009 Water Conservation Act — 125 gallons per capita per day (gpcd) by 2020. However, there are still challenges ahead. Continued drought, reduced Sierra snowpack due to climate change, and a growing population are all factors that could result in increased potable water consumption.
